Growing up in Cornwall has had a huge effect on my work over the last 5 years, since becoming a silver jewellery designer.
I also grew up in an artistic home and from a very young age was drawn to art & design. The idea of creating a piece of wearable artwork, though, fascinates me.
About 15 years ago, I started making beaded jewellery in my spare time, which I eventually made and sold in my own gift shop (which, I must say, helped to keep me sane in the quiet times). Wanting to expand my creativity, I dug out some inspirational books on handcrafted silver jewellery and decided to teach myself silver wire-wrapping. There seemed to be huge scope for imagination and I loved the way silver wire could be used to create twists, folds and swirls of movement.
I later decided to expand further and attended the Art School in Penzance to learn silver smithing. This handcrafted silver jewellery course was a fascinating challenge to me and I immediately started to develop my own style, incorporating silver wire-wrapping techniques into my jewellery designs.
I soon realised I wanted to become a silver jewellery designer, so set up a workspace in my home in Hayle, Cornwall and 2 years later moved into a workshop in Foundry Gallery, where I was able to expand the business further.
Having had a year out in Africa, I now work from my studio at home again, overlooking the harbour & estuary in Hayle.
Having always been attracted to organic materials, I love working with semi-precious stones and creating a piece of jewellery that particularly enhances the natural beauty of a single gemstone. I aim to create unusual, beautiful shapes; handcrafted silver jewellery that is simple, contemporary & elegant that also has that touch of class that you'll want to wear time and again.
